2007 and 2008 Beach Sprint Host Sites Named
The World Rowing Council has selected Oeiras, Portugal and Antalya, Turkey as the 2027 and 2028 host sites, respectively, for the World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals and Coastal Championships.
Both venues and organizing committees have prior experience hosting the sport’s flagship event. Antalya hosted the 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, while Oeiras welcomed the global Coastal Rowing community in 2021.
“The attribution of the 2027 and 2028 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals reflects both confidence in experienced hosts and our long-term vision for the development of Coastal and Beach Sprint Rowing,” said Jean-Christophe Rolland, president of World Rowing, the international rowing federation.
The Oerias event in 2027 will serve as the Olympic qualification regatta for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, where Beach Sprints will make its Olympic debut.
“Going back to Oeiras in 2027 is incredibly exciting for us. That’s where everything started for the USA in Beach Sprint, our first World Championship, so returning there feels meaningful and personal,” said Marc Oria, the Beach Sprint head coach for the U.S. “It’s also a bit of redemption. We showed real speed there and for Chris [Bak, the two-time defending world champion in the men’s solo,] especially, after missing the turn buoy despite having the fastest times in earlier rounds, it’s a chance to come back stronger and finish what we started.”
For 2028, Beach Sprints returns to the site of the 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, where the U.S. won two golds and a silver.
“Antalya is a special place for this team. It’s where we achieved our best senior results ever, and it showed what we’re capable of on the world stage,” said Oria. “Going back in 2028, our mindset is clear, we’re ready to medal in every event.”
The 2026 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals will be held October 18-21 in Qingdao, People’s Republic of China.
