In Memoriam: Charlotte Williams Bamforth (B. 1987, 88)
The Club is deeply saddened to share the passing of Charlotte Bamforth née Williams. Charlotte rowed in the 3-seat of the winning Cambridge Blue Boat in the 1987 Women’s Boat Race and in the 5-seat during the 1988 Women’s Boat Race. Her victory in the 42nd Women’s Boat Race marked Cambridge’s forth victory in six years. She completed her MA in Biological Natural Sciences at Fitzwilliam College.
Charlotte’s passion for rowing extended beyond Cambridge, as she went on to represent Team GB, winning a silver medal at the U23 World Rowing Champs in 1987. Off the water, she devoted her professional life to teaching science and serving as a rowing and riding coach.
Charlotte passed away peacefully at age 59 after a valiant fight with cancer. She was a beloved wife, daughter, mother and grandmother.
The Club will remember Charlotte with fondness, and we extend our sincerest condolences to the Bamford family.
