Captain’s Briefing 5 May 2025

0 26

Work at the Club

  • A reminder that a week today the roof of the quad shed will start to be removed.
  • The contractor is estimating that this will take 5 to 7 working days.
  • So the club will be shut during the day from 12th to 20th May, excluding weekends and evenings.
  • DO NOT BOOK ANY OUTINGS, TRAINING OR ANYTHING AT THE CLUB BETWEEN 8AM AND 5PM ON THESE DATES.
  • You will be welcome to use the club in the evenings and weekends, but stay away from the cordoned off area.
  • After that we will be working on fitting the new roof and getting back to normal.
  • Please watch your emails for updates on all of this.
  • As a result of this, all the quads are now on the outside racks – see photos attached.
  • If you take one out, note exactly the position as they did not fit easily and if you try to put it back in the wrong place or position, it will not fit.
  • There are extra large orange tape strips on the side of the boats to mark where they sit.
  • Note that many have covers too, which I have now written the boat name on.

At the Club

  • Fantastic Extra Super Saturday this weekend, with 29 people out in 7 quads and a double – see attached photo.
  • This was followed by bacon and veggie butties all round. So many thanks to Andrea for organising and cooking too.
  • NOTE. The next one is SUPER SUNDAY – 1st June – as requested by members at the last AGM. So if you cannot make Saturdays please do try and come to this session.
  • Please remember that we now have Wednesday evening singles paddles with Shelagh for competent single scullers, and Thursday evening learn to single sessions for those who want to learn to single, or be supported when they do go out. Sign up for both of these on the sheet.

L2R

  • We had the rowing taster day yesterday with 14 people down for a 1 hour try at sculling.
  • A huge thank you to Shelagh for organising everyone during the day, which went very well despite the “4 seasons in one day” weather that we had.
  • And also many thanks to Cecilia for dealing with all of the admin (supported by Frances). A thankless task that she handled very well.
  • At least 12 of them expressed an interest in attending the L2R course. So we will look at either running 2 courses or expanding it to 3 days where people can choose any 2 to come to.
  • Either way, we will be looking for more support. So please do help if you can when asked.
