Alumna Imogen Grant Awarded MBE in King’s New Year Honours List
The Club wishes to extend its warmest congratulations to alumna Imogen Grant who was awarded an MBE in the King’s New Year Honours List.
This recognition was awarded for Grant’s outstanding contribution to rowing and her exceptional sporting achievements, including her gold medal winning race in the Paris Olympics alongside her rowing partner Emily Craig, becoming the ‘forever champion’ in the Lightweight Women’s double sculls.
After learning to row at 1st & 3rd, Grant was a part of three winning Women’s Blue Boats (2018, 19, 22), two winning Blondie crews (2016, 17) and competed in the Women’s Lightweight Race in 2016 (that’s two crews in the same year!).
In 2024 Grant was also named among the winners of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Climate Action Awards and the BBC Green Sport Athlete of the year 2024, in recognition of her role in the launch of the Clean Water Sport Alliance to improve river health and water quality, helping address climate change and make the world of sport more sustainable. She currently serves as an ambassador for the Rivers Trust, participating in nearly 2,400 river surveys and water-testing campaign to date.
Of her work, Grants says: “Sport is such a team effort, and so is sustainability. I am so grateful to the amazing people and organisations who have helped me speak up and use my athlete’s voice for more than just sport. I hope to continue inspiring others to take action, both on and off the field of play.”
