Bailey-Greene Introduced as Toledo’s First Ever Women’s Rowing Coach

0 2

Chris Bailey-Greene officially took his place as the first ever women’s rowing coach at the University of Toledo when he was introduced last week.

The programs first season of competition starts in the fall of 2025 and Bailey-Greene will bring a wealth of knowledge from over 13 years of coaching experience. The Cincinnati, Ohio native rowed collegiately at Brown University and comes to Toledo after spending time as associate head coach of women’s rowing at Washington State University.

“The biggest challenge especially is figuring out what you need to change first and what’s sequential,” Bailey-Greene told the Ohio press. “You only have a limited amount of time. I take so much pride in building something in Ohio. I know how prideful people are in sports at University of Toledo.”

During his time as a student-athlete at Brown, Bailey-Greene won Ivy League titles in 2007 and 2008. As a coach, he has also spent time mentoring and guiding student-athletes at Yale, Oregon State and Gonzaga.

“I’ve always gone for challenge,” remarked Bailey-Greene. “We have a great support system here. We’re working to recruit people who value being holistic, people who are motivated internally when no one is watching, people who want to be student-athletes not athlete-students.”

The Rockets will compete in the Mid-American Conference, which recently added rowing as a sport beginning with the 2025-26 season. The winner will receive and automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Championships.

“To go from nothing to have the chance at top 22 in the country—what a blessing,” said Bailey-Greene. “What a blessing to be able to say you could do that and be able to do it with people you care about. Can’t get much better than that.”

Bailey-Greene was named the program’s first head coach in November of 2024.
