A Letter from the President
Dear alumni and supporters,
I am excited by the progress and momentum of Virginia Men’s Rowing. The team’s morale and numbers are strong, and the rowers in Charlottesville are going fast, energized by top coaching, new equipment, and spacious facilities. Their enthusiasm is also reflected in results of an anonymous survey conducted by the board just before ACRA in each of the past two years.
Our competition is also improving in depth and breadth—an outcome that is fantastic for club men’s rowing and our sport more generally, raising the stakes at regattas and sweetening the victories. Long gone are the years of Michigan and Virginia with open water to the field (see their recent ACRA B-final victory). Off the water, UCLA, for example, has already secured $5 million towards a $10 million endowment campaign. I look forward to that rivalry growing. Perhaps my biggest fear is Frank’s eventual retirement (Gunnar is how old?!?), but I’d say his recent fitness boost makes him fit to do the job for decades to come.
Taking over as president during this period of success, I feel immense gratitude for Andy Fletcher’s service over the past eight years. I have high expectations for our team and am committed to supporting them. Your support, in any form, is always welcome. Please feel free to reach out with any concerns.
Go Hoos!
