Penn AC has hired Tom Wedgwood as the club’s new High Performance Head Coach & Director of Programs. Wedgwood fills the role vacated by Bill Manning, who moved down Boathouse Row in August to become the head women’s rowing coach at the University of Pennsylvania.

“His proven ability to develop athletes for international success will solidify Penn AC as one of the top performing programs in the country,” said club president, Chris Reich. “We look forward to the growth of the program, and the club, under Tom’s direction”

Penn AC’s High Performance Group trains and develops elite-level men and women and providing them with opportunities to compete at national and international regattas, including USRowing’s various national championships, Royal Canadian Henley Regatta, and Henley Royal Regatta. Penn AC has a long history of producing U.S. National Team rowers and scullers who have competed at the World Rowing Championships and Olympic Games.

Wedgwood began rowing at Penn AC at age 14, attended St. Joe’s Prep, and rowed at Rutgers University. He has coached junior and senior athletes in Switzerland and the United Kingdom and returns to Penn AC from his position as Director of the Waterford Wedgwood Group in Asia.

“I am honored,” said Wedgwood. “Penn AC has played a pivotal role in shaping my life since I began my rowing journey here as a teenager. To now have the opportunity to give back to the club that has given me so much is both humbling and inspiring.”

“As a coach, my greatest privilege is helping athletes unlock their potential–whether by winning medals on the world stage or achieving success in their personal and professional lives.”
