Jan Helmich (Granta 2019, Trinity Hall) took bronze for Team Germany in the PR3 Mix2x at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris on Sunday, finishing behind Australia and Team GB in a tight race.

The first-time Paralympian headed to Paris on a high, recently winning a gold medal in the PR3 Mix2x at World Rowing Cup II, a bronze at World Rowing Cup III, and a silver in the 2024 European Rowing Championships with doubles partner Hermine Krumbein.

In 2022, Jan was named to the German Paralympic Team of the Year, the highest honour the International Paralympic Committee can bestow upon athletes at the national level.

Alongside rowing, Jan has continued his studies at Cambridge. He is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Engineering, working in the Institute of Manufacturing’s Cyber-Human Lab, where he researches the integration and benefits of digital humanoid avatars in a work context.

Congratulations, Jan!
