Jan Helmich (Granta 2019, Trinity Hall) is set to represent Team Germany in the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

The first-time Paralympian heads to Paris on a high, recently winning a gold medal in the PR3 Mix2x at World Rowing Cup II, a bronze at World Rowing Cup III, and a silver in the 2024 European Rowing Championships with doubles partner Hermine Krumbein. He also clenched a bronze at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in the PR3 Mix4+, securing Germany’s Paris 2024 berth alongside crewmates Susanne Lackner, Marc Lembeck, Kathrin Marchand and cox Inga Thoene.

In 2022, Jan was named to the German Paralympic Team of the Year, the highest honour the International Paralympic Committee can bestow upon athletes at the national level.

Paralympic Rowing kicks off in Paris on Friday 30 August and concludes on Sunday 1 September. A full schedule of events can be viewed here. Jan is set to compete in the PR3 Mix2x.

Alongside rowing, Jan has continued his studies at Cambridge. He is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Engineering, working in the Institute of Manufacturing’s Cyber-Human Lab, where he researches the integration and benefits of digital humanoid avatars in a work context.
