OUBC Announces Harry Brightmore as Assistant Coach

Oxford University Boat Club this week announced a second coach appointment for the 2025 season. Harry Brightmore will take on the role as Assistant Coach for both their men’s and women’s programmes.

Harry was announced last week as cox of the GB Paris Olympic Men’s Eight and will bring extensive experience to the role. Harry joins the Oxford coaching team after 11 years in high-performance programmes at GB Rowing and Oxford Brookes University. Harry is a double European and World Champion cox of the British men’s eight, a six-time Henley Royal Regatta winner, and a five-time Head of the River Race champion.

He will leverage his experience to coach across of the open, lightweight, and development crews at Oxford.

Robin Bourne-Taylor – Oxford Interim COO said,

“The OUBC Committee, coaches and athletes are really excited that Harry has joined the OUBC coaching team. His world class pedigree speaks for itself, and he brings a passion and dedication that is contagious. Harry has been a key contributor to British high-performance rowing for many years and he will bring all that experience combined with expert communication skills to his work at Oxford. Harry’s energy and knowledge will undoubtedly be a huge addition to the OUBC and we look forward to having him involved full-time after the Paris Olympics.”

Harry Brightmore said,

“It’s a true honour to be welcomed into the Oxford University Boat Club. The Boat Race is such a special event and the chance to help all the teams prepare for it is a challenge that seriously excites me. I can’t wait.”

Everyone here at The Boat Race wishes Harry the best of luck in the final preparations for Paris where he will be racing the men’s eight with Boat Race and Oxford alumni, Charlie Elwes.
