Rowing Australia CEO Ian Robson accepts new role

Rowing Australia Chief Executive Officer Ian Robson will leave the organisation to pursue a commercial opportunity after five-and-half years of guiding the sport.

Rowing Australia’s President Rob Scott said Robson had been at the vanguard through some challenging times and made significant contributions from the grassroots to elite levels of rowing.

“Ian leaves rowing in good shape after a period of growth and transformation across the sport. This has seen strong international performances by the Australian Rowing Team and progress with various initiatives to expand participation and improve governance across the sport,” Scott said.

“Leading Rowing Australia through the challenges of COVID and supporting athletes, staff and the rowing community was another highlight of Ian’s tenure.

“It has also been pleasing to see the ongoing development of our National Training Centres in Penrith and Canberra, and the strong team of coaches, athletes and support staff that are well positioned in the lead up to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“On behalf of the Australian Rowing Team, staff and Board I would like to wish Ian all the best for the next chapter in his career. We thank him for his contribution to rowing in Australia.”

Robson said there was a long list of acknowledgments and was particularly proud of the the achievements of the sport in the lead-up to – and during – the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“I would like to acknowledge and thank the Rowing Australia Board, staff and stakeholders for all of their support during my tenure as Chief Executive Officer. I also want to acknowledge the game–changing support of our athletes from Rowing Australia Patron Mrs Gina Rinehart AO.

“I am immensely proud of all of what we have achieved in my tenure, with the clear highlight being the incredible success of the team at both the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics in the middle of a global pandemic.

“I wish nothing but the best for the future development of the great sport of rowing and sendmy best wishes to all the athletes who are working hard on their preparation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024.

“To wear the Green and Gold Zoot Suit and make us proud.”

Robson will continue in his role at Rowing Australia until the end of July 2023. A replacement will be announced in due course.
