Four Australian rowers to compete at Virtus Global Games

Rowers Bronte Marshall (NSW), Julia Story (NSW), MacIntyre Russell (QLD), Aaron Skinner (VIC) will proudly don the green and gold after being named to represent Australia at the Virtus Global Games in France from June 4-10.

The quartet will form part of a 121-strong Australian team that will compete in the Games in Vichy, which will welcome more than 1000 athletes from 50-plus countries. Michael Russell, from The University of Queensland Boat Club, will travel as a coach along with Kathleen Hextell (Drummoyne), who forms an integral part of the team as cox/coach.

The Australian contingent is expected to be the second-largest behind host nation France.

Australia has been a high achiever at the Global Games, topping the medal count in every instalment aside from the first event in Sweden in 2004, where the team finished second.

Rowing Australia congratulates our athletes for their selection in the Global Games, which have are held in the preceding year to the Paralympic Games and have become a stepping stone for Paralympic success in Olympic years.

The Virtus Global Games are the pinnacle event for athletes with an intellectual impairment and the world’s largest elite spots event for athletes with intellectual impairment. You can read more about the Games here.
