Total of 12 crews set to race in Penrith in June

Rowing Australia (RA) today announced the 2021 Under 19 Australian Rowing Team that will compete at the World Rowing Cup 3 simulation regatta to be held from 11 to 13 June in Penrith, New South Wales.

Earlier this month RA announced the four crews that were selected early due to meeting performance benchmarks at the recently 2021 Aon Australian Rowing Championships. Those four crews, the U19 Women’s Double Scull, U19 Women’s Coxed Four, U19 Men’s Coxed Four and U19 Men’s Coxless Four, will now be joined by an additional eight crews that met selection criteria at the U19 Selection Trials that took place last week in Canberra.

The U19 team will now also include a Women’s Single Scull, a Women’s Pair, a Women’s Coxless Four, a Women’s Quadruple Scull, a Women’s Eight, a Men’s Double Scull, a Men’s Quadruple Scull and a Men’s Eight.

The crews are made up of athletes from across Australia’s pathway network, with representation coming from all of RA’s Member Associations. Meanwhile, this year’s coaching team includes a number of Australian Rowing Team alumni, including Olympians Duncan Free, Hannah Every-Hall, Sarah Cook and former Australian Rowing Team members Tom Gatti and Blaine Heseltine.

RA Deputy Performance Director, Jaime Fernandez said, “We’re pleased today to announce the additional eight crews selected into our Under 19 Australian Rowing Team that will compete in June.

“We are excited to welcome these crews, alongside our Under 21 and Under 23 teams as they compete against our Tokyo-bound athletes in Penrith. This is a large team, with 12 crews, and we’re looking forward to see how our future generation of rowers handle racing in this highly competitive environment.”
