Looking back on the Row to the Moon challenge

In conjunction with Rowing Canada Aviron, British Rowing and Rowing NZ, we invited indoor rowers worldwide to log their training metres with the shared goal of accumulating, as one singular community, 384.4 million metres – the distance from Earth to the Moon.

The results are now in – over the full length of the challenge between 21 and 31 May, the global community covered an astounding 51,982,869 metres!

To put that distance into context, it equates to:

The challenge was also a great celebration of mass-participation, with 1042 entries coming in from 32 different countries worldwide, with Australia recording the most participants – 378!

While there were many great achievements from all the nations and participants involved, we wanted especially recognise Australians Stephen French (PR2) and Lindy Hou (PR3 – VI) who contributed the most metres for a male and female para-rower, respectively, in the whole challenge!

Stephen clocked 111,397 metres, while Lindy amassed 101,059 metres!  You can view the full progress chart here, the full country leaderboard here and the full participant leaderboard here.
