March 28 2020 Update from the Don Rowing Club Board of Directors

As you are aware the municipality and the province have taken steps to shutter all non-essential services. The Don Rowing Club is a municipally controlled building, we must take direction to follow the instructions of both the City of Mississauga and the Province of Ontario.

The Don Rowing Club remains closed until further notice. Your coaches are working as best as they can to provide alternate training programs and maintain a communication channel with the athletes.  Recommended training is in line with the Rowing Canada direction to reduce the overall intensity of workouts and ensure that all athletes maintain a strong immune system. Suggested workouts are in line with physical distancing and isolation parameters.

Rowing Canada and RowOntario are keeping us informed of the status of 2020 regattas as decisions are made.  To date, all spring and high school season regattas  have been cancelled.

Obviously, this is having an impact on the club from an operational and financial basis. Nevertheless, the club is in a strong financial position with adequate cash in the bank and money in reserve.

Regarding membership, we have temporarily suspended all membership packages for the 2020-21 season and removed them from ClubWorks. Once we have a better understanding of the season and when the club will re-open, we will send more communication about membership fees and payments and when they are due. For anyone that has already paid their membership, we can issue a full refund or can hold onto the fees and refund the difference when the new membership fees are set. Please email membership@donwrowingclub.com if you would like a refund, or if you have any other questions regarding membership. However, at this time, we do ask those with boats to please pay their boat storage for the 2020 season – packages are in your clubworks account.

The board has been monitoring the situation closely and, with the uncertainty as to the timing of recovery, will continue to do so. We will continue to update you as more information is available.
