CUWBC season update by Larkin Sayre, President

CUWBC have been putting in the miles on the water in Ely and on the ergs at the Goldie Boathouse since training camp. I am constantly struck by the depth this team has which means selection and inter-squad racing is competitive and exciting. We are pushing each other to be faster every day and it makes me a proud President to see the racing spirit of my teammates. It’s a true privilege to row with these women (and I’m glad the only time I have to race against them is during seat racing!). The days are starting to get longer now which makes the 5:57am train journeys to Ely for morning rows that bit easier to manage. We are enjoying our time together and making the most of these last weeks of preparation.

Our second eight raced at Quintin Head in January and put in a stellar performance. They executed their race plan well and pushed themselves past what they thought was possible. They came away with a great result of 4th out of 10 crews in the Championship 8+ category, well ahead of other women’s second eights. This performance, along with excellent Quintin Head results from our lightweight women’s and men’s eights have been a huge morale boost for the squad. We are now looking forward to high quality fixtures against clubs such as Tideway Scullers, Nereus and Oxford Brookes. We’re back on the Tideway most weekends before March 29th sharpening our technique, building our strength and perfecting our unshakeable rhythm.
