0 6

CUBC is sad to note the passing of 1954 Blue Sir Michael Marshall.

Coming up to Cambridge in 1952 after National Service in the RAF, Sir Michael was educated at St. Faith’s School Cambridge, and Eton. He read History at Jesus, and was a notable athlete. Sir Michael was stroke of the Jesus first eight when it was head of the river in the 1953 Lent and 1955 May Bumps. He occupied the same position for CUBC in the 100th Boat Race in 1954, which he followed up with representation in the Great Britain team for the 1955 European Championships.

After graduation, he took various roles with the Marshall Group, becoming Deputy Chairman of Marshall Motor Group in 1963, and Group Chairman and Chief Executive in 1989. He retired from these positions in 2011, but remained Chairman of the Marshall Group until his death.

His funeral will be a small family gathering, but a public memorial service will be held at a later date, and will be communicated to the members of the CUBC.
