Stanford rowers to take part in John’s March, stomach cancer fund-raiser
Leaving their oars behind, members of the Stanford men’s rowing team will head for the hills Saturday morning and take part for the second straight year in John’s March at Sonoma Raceway.
The Cardinal won’t exactly be marching over the 2.5-mile road course, usually home to high-speed race cars. They’ll run 10 kilometers, or 2½ laps, in the seventh annual fund-raising event for No Stomach for Cancer. The event is named for the raceway’s longtime spokesman, John Cardinale, who died of stomach cancer in 2013.
“It’s a real combination of respect and a tribute to John and that great cause as well as a way to improve our fitness,” Stanford head coach Craig Amerkhanian said.
