Women's Head of the river race 2017

Royal Chester Rowing Club women’s squad Travelled to London last weekend for the annual Women’s Head of the river race on the Thames. This national race for eights is over 6.8 kilometers from Chiswick to Putney and saw an entry of 320 crews. This is the same course as the University boat race and both crews dealt well with the challenging conditions.

For the first time Royal Chester Rowing entered a Junior Girls Eight as well as an intermediate crew in the race and this is the first time that the Club have had two crews finish in the top 200 in the largest Rowing Race for women in the world.

For one of the crew members, Jeni Clegg from Malpas, it was her first taste of racing having only taken up the sport in September 2016 with the Royals ‘Learn to Row’ course. After just 7 months rowing Jeni is hooked saying "I loved it, I've really got the bug for racing now!"
