As a boarder at Geelong College during the 1950s, Don Gibb participated in various aspects of school life; he won academic prizes and showed sporting prowess, especially for rowing. He was a sergeant-major in the school cadets, but more memorable was his role as the exuberant major-general in a school production of The Pirates of Penzance.
