Sources: Frenzel to carry German flag at Olympics opening
Pyeongchang, South Korea (dpa) - Nordic combined skier Eric Frenzel will carry the German flag at the Winter Olympics opening ceremony on Friday, sources close to the decision told dpa on Wednesday.German television and website company Sport1 also reported the news.Frenzel, 29, won gold in the 10km individual normal hill at the 2014 Games.He was in the running with four other German athletes for the honour of carrying the flag in South Korea.The German Olympic Sports Association had held a poll on its website to determine the winner.Alpine skier Viktoria Rebensburg, luger Natalie Geisenberger, ice hockey player Christian Ehrhoff and speed skater Claudia Pechstein, despite a two-year doping-rules related ban, were the other candidates.An official announcement is due on Thursday.Respected data services company Gracenote predicted on Wednesday that Germany would top the Pyeongchang medals table with 14 golds.
