LUMC Newsletter Week 3


Dear LUMC Members

We hope you enjoyed the trip to Trowbarrow on Saturday. We certainly had a great time!


This Week:

Wednesday: We will be meeting at 1pm in County Bar for lunch and a chat. Please return any club gear you may have. We will then be heading down to the wall for 2pm.

Thursday: Climbing and Drinks. We will be having a relaxed climbing session down at the wall, followed by some drinks at Grad Bar. Meet at the climbing wall at19:00. Please let us know if you will need signing in, or need to borrow any gear. Feel free to join us for drinks after even if you can't come climbing! 

Sunday: Trip to Bramcrag Quarry. This will be a chance to try some sport climbing. We will be leaving campus at 08:00, and Sainsbury’s car park in town at 08:30. The trip will cost £10; please pay on Wednesday. Please sign up online to let us know if you are coming, and to request any gear. 


Things to look out for:

Dress Your Mate Social: We are having a joint social with the Canoe Club on the 2nd of November. If you fancy coming, click attending on the Facebook event, we will then pair you up and you have the next week to pick a costume for your partner. You can spend up to £5 on it and anything inappropriate must be covered. You will then have to arrange to meet the other person to swap costumes. Meet at 7 at County Bar dressed up!!! We will go to some bars on campus and then to Sugar.

Weekend Away: We have had to push our weekend away trip back to 18th-20th November (end of week 6). We will be staying in a hut in Thirlmere for 2 nights. This will be a great weekend for some trad, bouldering, and scrambling. More details to follow soon.

Adventure Time: Wednesday Week 6 (16th November), 19:30 in County Bar. Talks include A Dummy’s Guide to Ski Touring, Cycle Touring Across Europe, and Backpacking Through Australia.  More info on the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/AdventureTimeLancaster/

BMC Winter Skills Lecture: Wednesday Week 7 (23rd November), 19:30 in Faraday Lecture Theatre. We have managed to organise a BMC Winter Skills Lecture at the uni! The club has 50 tickets to sell, which are £4 each. We will be donating all the money we make to Mountain Rescue. You can also buy tickets directly from BMC. This is a great opportunity to learn more about winter climbing, navigation, and avalanche awareness. Winter Skills Trip: We will be running our annual winter skills trip to the Cairngorms in Scotland during the last week of the Christmas Holidays (9th to 13th January). More details to follow!
