The Crux Is in Your Mind: Can You Solve This Climbing-Themed Crossword Puzzle?
While I tend to display an incredible level of mediocrity in all my athletic pursuits, including climbing, I’ve recently discovered a new, rather niche hobby where I am performing rather well: crossword construction. I began designing puzzles last year after my close friend, climber, and New York Times published crossword constructor, Hannah Binney, showed me the metaphorical ropes.
I love crossword construction for a similar reason that I love climbing. It presents a lively challenge and provides an engaging mental puzzle. Both reading routes and solving crosswords require a set of skills that develop through time, patience, and dedicated practice. Not only do I enjoy the meditative qualities of both, I value the long-term benefit of developing both my physical and mental muscles.
For the other climbing crossword enthusiasts out there—or for the crossword-curious climbers among us—have created this climbing-themed crossword. ”Get a Grip!” is as an ode to both of my hobbies and a way to bring crosswords to a wider audience. I hope you enjoy it!
