UIAA recruiting for a Project Manager (Sustainability/Medical)

The UIAA – International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation – is seeking a highly motivated and experienced

PROJECT MANAGER (SUSTAINABILITY/MEDICAL) 

About the UIAA 

The UIAA is a global organization representing close to 100 national climbing and mountaineering associations. We are dedicated to:
– Developing safety standards and certifications for climbing and mountaineering equipment
– Defining and improving skills for safer and more enjoyable mountain activities and sport
– Providing leadership, guidance, and information on a wide range of sustainability and medical related topics
– Serving as the governing body for Ice Climbing competitions
 

The Opportunity 

The UIAA is looking for a maternity leave representation from September 2025 – February 2026 (6 months) on a 40-50% work pensum (position) in the role as Project Manager (focus: Sustainability and Medical) 

The UIAA Project Manager will work with, coordinate, and manage an international group of volunteers from the headquarter based in Bern, Switzerland, and remotely.  

You will play a pivotal role in: 

  • Collaborating with the UIAA CEO, Executive Committee, Management Board, Commissions, and volunteers
  • Identifying, coordinating, and fostering activities that benefit member federations and the mountain sports community
  • Facilitating the planning, implementation, and execution of decisions made by UIAA governing bodies 
  • Building strong relationships with member federations, international organizations, and partners. 

The main tasks will be: 

  • Plan, support and implement projects and decisions of the UIAA Executive Board, Management Committee, General Assembly and Commissions with focus on sustainability and medical;
  • Act as main liaison of the CEO; 
  • Further develop the “Global Mountain Network” through cooperation and exchange of information with relevant international organisations and partners; 
  • Support the UIAA Mountain Protection Commission in coordinating the UIAA Mountain Protection Award, disseminating the UIAA Sustainability Charter and liaise with member federations and external bodies on related sustainability projects; 
  • Managing the work of the Climate Change Taskforce and coordinate related UIAA climate actions; 
  • Support the UIAA Medical Commission on current projects including reviewing and creating recommendations for medical professionals and lay climbers, and coordinating the Mountain Sports Symposium held in conjunction with the UIAA General Assembly;  
  • Evaluate and develop new funding opportunities, linked to UIAA or UIAA partner projects, such as donations and legacies; 
  • Generate and disseminate high quality evaluation and progress reports; 
  • Coordinate project-relevant marketing and communication activities. 
Your Qualifications 
  • Bachelor/Master’s Degree in the field of sustainability or sport management  
  • Solid track record in sustainability projects and administration, sport marketing, and fundraising
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills in a diverse international environment
  • Proactive and self-motivated team player with a high degree of initiative
  • Passion for outdoor sports, ideally with experience in climbing, ski touring, mountaineering, or hiking
    Fluency in English is essential, and proficiency in German is highly recommended
