Plans for 2025 UIAA General Assembly progressing well
The 2025 UIAA General Assembly will take place in Peja, Kosovo with the programme running from 22-26 October.
Andre von Rotz, UIAA CEO, and Stephanie Stettbacher, UIAA Office Manager, were recently hosted by the Kosovo Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation, to step up preparations for this year’s event.
The organisation of the event is being led by Arinat Nikqi, President of the Kosovo Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation (KMSCF) and an Executive Board member of the Kosovo National Olympic Committee. The UIAA delegation were able to meet a number of entities and individuals playing a key role in the delivery of the event, notably the Mayor of the city of Peja, Gazmend Muhaxheri, as well as Virtyt Morina – from the Tourist Board of Peja and Raif Gjikolli, member of the KMSCF Board, and project coordinator of Tourism Peja. The UIAA delegation also attended an event hosted by the Kosovo NOC and had the opportunity to meet its President Ismet Krasniqi.
The programme for the GA is still under development. However the current outline is:
- 23 October: Arrivals
- 24 October: GA Information Session & Climate Change Summit
- 25 October: GA Voting Session
- 25 & 26 October: Mountain Sports Symposium and GA Cultural Activities (optional)
The programme, will also include the Mountain Sports Symposium (MSS). This event follows the model of the the successful conference held in Bariloche, Argentina in April 2024. Topics covered will range from the environment, the cold & altitude as well as a dedicated segment focused on climbing in Kosovo. It will comprise a mix of workshops and presentations delivered by a range of experts including personnel from the UIAA Medical, Safety and Training Commissions, also experts from the Kosovo federation.
Further details on the 2025 GA, and the Mountain Sports Symposium (MSS) will be published in due course.
