Hut Fridge and Freezer Hygiene

In order to maintain Hut Fridges and Freezers in a clean and mould free condition can members please observe the following guidelines.

While at the Hut can members please do the following:

• Clean out any milk or other spillages as soon as they occur or are discovered. Use cleaning sprays to ensure no residue remains. Remove and clean shelves or door trays if necessary.
• On departure do not leave any of your food in a fridge or freezer unless you have given it to another person staying. Do not leave food on the off chance someone may find it useful

Can the last person out please do the following:

• Remove all food from the fridges and freezers and check for and clean out any food residue or spillage
• Ensure the door is propped open with wedge provided. If one is not available then use anything else eg teapot, saucepan etc. Please do not leave doors closed when the electricity is turned off
• Ensure all fridges and freezers are individually switched off at the plug socket

Can the first person in please do the following:

• Check that fridges and freezers are switched off and doors are propped open for those units you do not need to use
• For the fridges and freezers you are not using can you have a look and see if they are in a hygienic state. If you find signs of mould or food spillage left by a previous member then can you please clean it out rather than leave it.  Hopefully this should be a rare event but by all means let the warden know you have done this.
