Weekend Whipper: The Brutal Crux of One of World’s Hardest Trad Routes

0 20

Readers, please send your Weekend Whipper videos, information, and any lessons learned to Anthony Walsh, awalsh@outsideinc.com.

Heads up, folks: watching the following video will ruin your onsight of Tribe, one of the world’s hardest trad routes.

Pietro Vidi was projecting the striking granite pitch in Cadarese, Italy. Tribe was first freed by Jacopo Larcher in March 2019, who opted not to grade it. James Pearson made the second ascent of Tribe a year-and-a-half later and also declined to give it a grade, but noted at the time: “For me, Tribe is by far the hardest series of moves I have ever done on a trad route, and it’s a real miracle that the thing is actually possible on gear.”

Though Vidi has yet to redpoint Tribe, he has ticked off another notable Larcher testpiece: the extremely technical and bold Jeune et Con (8b/5.13d R/X), also in Cadarese. We’re looking forward to seeing what Vidi gets up to next.

Happy Friday, and be safe out there this weekend.
