Well that may explain the gently whispered fuck you that this week’s whipper opens with—the 5.10c’s black varnish baking in the sun, providing negative friction.

Alex Gross had completed the crux finger-tip layback, “but was so pumped he couldn’t hang on the final jugs,” his friend Allen Warner said. “His favorite cam, a black Totem, held the fall. He was worried about the ledge just below the crux, but I jumped down the hill the moment he fell to remove slack and safeguard the fall.”
