Laura Rogora Sends Fourth 5.15 in a Year

Laura Rogora, 19, has been on an incredible streak these past 10 months. In May of 2020, the Italian climber sent Pure Dreaming Plus (5.15a/9a+) in Arco. Less than two short months later, she made history yet again by becoming the second woman to climb 5.15b when she clipped the chains on Ali Hulk Sit Start Extension Total in Rodellar, Spain. A few months later, she climbed The Bow (5.15a/9a+), also in the Padaro cave in Arco. This week she ticked yet another 5.15a, marking her fourth route of the crag in less than a year.

On April 10, Rogora made the second ascent on Terapia d’urto (5.15a/9a+), which translates to Shock Therapy. The route is located in the small Padaro cave above Arco, Italy. The line connects sections of L’ arcoere (5.14b/8c ) and Goosfraba (5.14c/8c +). It is short and stout, consisting of about 40 wildly intense moves on limestone so overhung that the climber is never more than a few meters off the ground until pulling around the lip of the cave. Terapia d’urto was equipped by Marco Erspamer and saw its first ascent by fellow Italian Stefano Ghilsofi just a few days before Rogora made the second ascent.

“Super day in padaro!!” Rogora wrote on Instagram. “I could climb my third 9a+ [5.15a] with this short and intense route by [Stefano Ghilsofi].”

Rogora is among the most elite climbers in the world, in both indoor and outdoor climbing. She is one of five women to have climbed 5.15, joined by Margo Hayes, Anak Verhoeven, Angela Eiter, and Julia Chanourdie, and she’s ticked more 5.15s than anyone else in the group. Rogora has also won two World Youth Championships in bouldering, a World Youth Championship in lead, European Youth Championship in lead, and will be representing Italy in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
