BRNO HOSTS ROUND 2 OF EUROPEAN CUP SEASON

The second event in the 2020-2021 UIAA Ice Climbing season, partnered by Outdoor Research, was held on 12 December. 42 athletes contested a European Cup in Brno, Czech Republic.

The”Dry Tool Cup Brno 2020″ competition took place on a pillar by the Brno dam. This event acted as both the international Championship of the Czech Republic and at the same time the second event of UIAA European Cup 2020/2021.

Thanks to the commitment of the members of the organising HO Lokomotiva Brno and the Czech Mountaineering Federation secretariat, the venue was successfully set up to cater for the maximum number of people in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines. In total, there could not be more than 50 participants in the race area, so with 31 men and 11 women on the starting list, a number of competitors secured or helped between climbing with officiating and the organisation.

The qualification took place on five routes. Four routes to TR in the D5 to D8 classification and one route to the first D8 identified the eight finalists in the categories. The final route “Never give up” demanded an ascent of nearly 30m, estimated as a D12 (female equiavalent D10) and a time limit of eight minutes.

Of the Czech competitors, Aneta Loužecká and Pavel Vrtík, both from the organizing team of HO Lokomotiva Brno, reached the highest and thus became the champions of the Czech Republic for the year 2020.

In the UIAA European Cup (total ranking) women’s category, Maria Šoltésová (SVK) finished third, Aneta Loužecká (CZK) finished second and Olga Kosek (POL), winner a week earlier in Žilina, claimed victory. In the men’s category for the UIAA European Cup, Alexadr Husczo (POL) took third place, Juraj Švingál (SVK) finished second and Marek Černý (SVK) gave the absolute best performance.
