Blustery Scrambling on Snowdon

There was a lot of water about this morning. So much that there was a boot high splash and dash in crossing the causeway on Llyn Llydaw and gaining the start of Snowdon’s Y Gribin required a detour around the back of Glaslyn rather than the usual hop across the stream near its start. I was out with Jo and Theo today braving the weather for a sort of introduction to scrambling day. A trip up Y Gribin and Snowdon’s East Ridge is a good outing at any time but one that I usually keep in my back pocket to play on days when we’re dodging strong south westerly winds. The wind was blowing from the opposite direction today which meant for a bit of a buffeting on the more exposed sections of Y Gribin but by select use of the rope we were able to mitigate for both the wind and the damp and often slippery rock. Snowdon’s East Ridge was far less blustery and a nice way to gain the summit. I should probably add an explanation as to why we plumbed for this itinerary today but it’s just a sign of these strange times that working with local covid restrictions are now a part of everyday planning. A fun day out none the less though!
