A Smaller or Greater Traverse
Still feeling the glow of our two days on the Cuillin Ridge Martin and me needed a suitably good way to end our week on Skye and the obvious objective seemed to be an outing on the classic Clach Glas to Bla Bheinn traverse. Away from the main Cuillin Ridge this fine line of peaks along with Marsco and the Red Cuillin’s Garbh Bheinn form part of the Cuillin ‘Greater Traverse’.
The Greater Traverse is a huge outing although the much smaller Clach Glas – Bla Bheinn section is a great outing in its own right.
Tom joined us today and although not enjoying the same glorious weather of the last two days we had great fun climbing, descending and weaving around the route’s jagged crest and towers.
Half a dozen large echelons of geese had flown high over head as Martin and me walked down from Sgurr nan Gillean yesterday and another reminder that we are well into Autumn now was the light flurry of snow that blew in as we approached the summit of Bla Bheinn. On balance the weather gods have been kind to us this week and what a great week of mountaineering it’s been.
