FRCC Coronavirus (COVID-19) update no. 4
17th March 2020

Closure of Huts

As a Committee we value your health and safety above anything else and therefore it is with regret we have decided to close all FRCC huts with immediate effect. We will review the situation in mid-April.

This decision has been made because Government advice changed on the 16th March. They have advised on social distancing measures that we should all be taking to reduce social interaction between people in order to reduce the transmission of coronavirus. This includes only travelling on public transport if you need to; work from home, if you can; avoid social activities, such as going to pubs, restaurants, theatres and cinemas; avoid events with large groups of people. This is for everyone but is particularly important for people who are over 70 years, those with weakened immune systems and people who have underlying chronic conditions including asthma, diabetes or heart disease, and those who are pregnant.

Plan for Meets

In light of the rapidly changing developments with the coronavirus, the committee has decided, with a very heavy heart, to cancel all forthcoming meets in UK huts to the end of April. We will monitor the situation in mid-April and cancel meets on a ‘rolling’ basis as appropriate.

We are very conscious of our social responsibilities, and we have very reluctantly come to the conclusion, that we would not be honouring those responsibilities if we allowed those meets in the immediate future to go ahead and thereby risk contributing to the spread of the virus.

One of the meets affected by the current crisis is the French Easter Meet. Mick and Peter have decided that as a result of the rapidly deteriorating situation, and the situation in France, and in fairness to members, this meet cannot go ahead. This decision has effectively been taken out of Mick’s and Peter’s hands by the Foreign Office, airlines etc. Mick and Peter will be contacting the campsite to discuss re-imbursement of booking fees.

We find ourselves in a unique predicament, and hope that members will understand the rationale behind this difficult decision’.

Government Advice

Also follow national guidance as follows: Everyone should do what they can to stop coronavirus spreading.

Do

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
  • avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of coronavirus
  • only travel on public transport if you need to
  • work from home, if you can
  • avoid social activities, such as going to pubs, restaurants, theatres and cinemas
  • avoid events with large groups of people
  • use phone, online services, or apps to contact your GP surgery or other NHS services

Don’t

  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
  • do not have visitors to your home, including friends and family

The NHS will contact you from Monday 23 March 2020 if you are at particularly high risk of getting seriously ill with coronavirus. You’ll be given specific advice about what to do. Do not contact your GP or healthcare team at this stage – wait to be contacted.

Many thanks to all our members for helping us to control this virus. If there is a change in government advice we will update you

Brenda Fullard, FRCC Secretary.
