A Wee Hill for Winter Skills
We’ve the last of this year’s Weekend Winter Skills courses running this weekend. Given the amount of snow on the mountains of the West Highlands right now you’d imagine that we could have run them well into April. Forming a plan that fitted with the forecast weather and avalanche hazard Mark, Anthony, Gareth, Peter, Charlie, Tomas and me wandered up to little Stob Mhic Mhartuin which sits just above the Devil’s Staircase of the West Highland Way at the head of Glen Coe. With quite deep and soft snow we didn’t find anything to crampon around on but we did talk a lot about understanding the avalanche hazard and more importantly what we should be considering in making safe route choices.
