New – Mountain Biking Trips & Courses
Regular readers of the blog will know that I have been getting out on my bike quite a lot over the last year or so. Mountain biking is something I have enjoyed since I was a teenager, indeed I was riding before I was climbing, and I have rekindled the love for it and been blown away by how much the kit has improved!
The world is changing and many of us are delving into our conscience and looking at how much we travel for work and for pleasure. One of the questions I have asked myself is how I can make more of the places that I already live and work in and mountain biking seemed an obvious way of expanding what I currently offer – without adding to my carbon footprint any further!
On top of that its a lot of fun! I have been blown away this year by how much good riding there is here in Wales, how much easier the bikes are to ride and how much lighter they are compared to the nineties when I was previously doing a lot of riding.
This summer I did my Mountain Bike Leader Training and then followed that up with the assessment this week. I don’t mind admitting I was a tad nervous – it’s been 10 years since my last assessment which was my MIC – but it went well and so I am now in a position to add Mountain Bike guiding to the stuff that we can offer in the beautiful mountains we already play in as walkers and climbers. I have also teamed up with a couple of good friends who are some of the best MTB coaches in the business so that we are not just guiding but we can help improve your riding too!
New for 2020 are three courses all here in Snowdonia and this will expand in 2021 to tag onto existing mountaineering trips that we are running in Scotland, Austria and Switzerland. You can view the full range of adventures here.
If you haven’t got your own bike you can arrange hire locally in Betws Y Coed and come and join us to enjoy some of the best riding in Snowdonia. Coming at it from my background the emphasis is on enjoyable riding through beautiful scenery, I like to keep my wheels firmly on the ground and think of it as the summer equivalent of ski touring. Come out and play and see what you think!
