Newsletter Week 1

Dear LUMC Members,

Hello and welcome to another exciting new year with the club, with all kinds of things to keep you all entertained! Thank you very much to all those that came to the intro talk, it was lovely to see so many new faces, and we hope that you got to see why we love our club quite so. Now's the time to get involved, get psyched, and get out there, so take a look below to make sure you know all that we've got to offer.

This Week:

Climber's Lunch, Wed 10th, 1pm: Each week we will be meeting in County Bar for a bit of a chat before we go climbing at the wall, it's a good way to meet the rest of the club and chat climbing. Come along and say hi!
Beginner sessions, Wed 10th, 2-3pm & 3-4pm: If you haven't been climbing before, or want a refresher, sign up to one of our sessions and come along to the Uni sports centre wall so we can run through what you will need to know to climb safely. The session is free, and we can lend you a harness and shoes should you need them, but remember you will need to pay the wall entry fee still (£7). These will be running the next couple of weeks so don't worry if you can't make it.
Roped Bar Crawl, Wed 10th, 7:30pm: The year's socials kick off with a...rope? The ever ridiculous roped event is always highly amusing, with challenges at each bar and the general challenge of navigating the Uni in such a predicament, it will be a good laugh and worth coming along. As ever there is no need to drink if you don't want to, so don’t let it put you off!
Team Trials, Thurs 11th, 7:30pm: Our friendly competition so you can test out your bouldering and leading skills, and see if you'd like to compete with us this year. Anyone is welcome so long as you are signed off with the Uni wall (can tie in and belay safely). A contingent will also be heading to spoons at 10pm should you be that way inclined.
Fresher's Trip, Sun 14th, 8:30am: Our first proper trip this term, off to explore the wonders of Shepherd's Crag. There is of course no better way to find out about outdoor climbing than actually doing it, some come and give it a shot. This trip will cost £10 to cover the minibus and fuel. Check out the kit list for an idea of what you should bring, and remember members are welcome to hire gear for the day, just mark it on your ticket when you sign up.

Next Week:

Women's Climbing, Mon 15th, 7pm: Some friendly open sessions for bouldering and sport climbing at the Uni wall. Alex W, Jade and Juliane will be about if you want any advice about climbing, and get in touch with them if you have any other questions.
Team Training, Tue 16th, 8-10am: The first of our all new training sessions for the competitions team. Bronze or above sports centre membership will be needed to come along to this. More info about this will be available after the trials on the coming Thursday.
Climbers Lunch, Wed 17th, 1pm
Beginners Sessions, Wed 17th, 2-3pm & 3-4pm
NUBS Round 1, Wed 17th, 3pm: Round one of the bouldering series, in Liverpool for this round. Leave time will be earlier so that we can be there for 3 (More details to follow...)
Boulder UK, Thurs 18th, 5:30pm: A little adventure down to Preston where plenty of bouldering can be found, followed by a return to the one and only spoons later on.
Weekend Away! Fri 19th-Sun 21st: A big adventure up to Thirlmere in the Lakes for the weekend where all sorts of glorious mountaineering activities can be found. This trip will cost £35 to cover accommodation, transport and food for the weekend. Food will be provided for Saturday and Sunday, but please bring your own tea on Friday. Check out the kit list for what you should bring along (as well as general excitement).

It's going to be a busy busy couple of weeks, but we hope you love it all! See you all around, and give it all your best go.

Happy Climbing,
The Exec
