Olympic champion Laura Dahlmeier dies in Pakistan mountaineering accident

Laura Dahlmeier, a two-time Olympic gold medallist and one of Germany’s most successful biathletes, has died after a rockslide in Pakistan’s Karakoram mountains. She was 31.
The accident occurred on Monday near Laila Peak at an altitude of 5,700 metres. She had been mountaineering in the area since late June. According to German broadcaster ZDF, her representative confirmed the death on Wednesday. The incident was first reported by German outlets Bild and Der Spiegel.
