When Wolfgang Güllich made the first ascent of Action Directe in 1991, he raised the standard for sport climbing, completing the world’s very first 9a [5.14d]. And is with many old-school routes (or at least as old school as you can get for 5.14d) the route is considered very difficult for the grade. In this uncut footage, watch the 20-year-old German climber Philipp Gaßner climb through the line without too much trouble.
