PARIS, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Ahmed Elgendy won Egypt's first gold medal at the Paris Olympics in modern pentathlon.
The 24-year-old, who took silver at Tokyo 2020, set a new world record with 1,555 points to beat the previous mark of 1,551 held by Csaba Bohm of Hungary.
Elgendy had already set an Olympic record of 1,516 points in the semifinals before making an upgrade in the final.
