Four British Judoka Set for Abidjan African Open

0 4

Four British judoka will compete in Côte d’Ivoire this weekend at the Abidjan African Open, Abidjan Junior African Cup, and Abidjan Cadet African Cup.

Competing at -73kg is Conall McGivern (The Judo Academy), who will take part in both the Abidjan African Open and the Junior African Cup. McGivern heads into the weekend with confidence after securing a seventh-place finish at his most recent international outing, the Amman Asian Open in August.

In the -81kg category, Aodhan McGivern (The Judo Academy) also arrives in Abidjan following a seventh-place result in Amman. He is set for a demanding schedule, competing across all three events—senior, junior, and cadet—offering him valuable mat time and strong developmental opportunities as he looks to build on his recent form.

Quinn Armstrong (The Judo Academy) continues the run of recent British seventh-place finishers. He will compete at -100kg in both the African Open and the Junior African Cup, gaining further exposure to high-level international competition.

Finally, Rachael Hawkes (Camberley JC) enters the -70kg division in exceptional form. She has claimed three consecutive bronze medals in her last three outings, the Montreal and Lima Panamerican Opens and the Gold Coast Oceania Open, and also earned gold earlier this year at the Port Louis African Open. Hawkes heads into the African Open as a genuine contender as she continues to build both experience and world ranking points, where she currently sits 66th in the -70kg category.
