NANAIMO, BC — Saturday, April 4 — The Nanaimo Clippers are thrilled to announce that Nanaimo Buccaneers forward Madden Cruickshank and defenceman Nate Barclay will join the team for the playoff run and have committed to the Clippers for the 2026–27 season.

Cruickshank, a 2008-born forward from Nanaimo, had an impressive rookie campaign with the Buccaneers, earning VIJHL Rookie of the Year honours. His offensive ability and familiarity with the local hockey community make him a strong addition to the Clippers’ forward group.

Barclay, a 2008-born defenceman from Langley, joins the Clippers following an outstanding season with the Nanaimo Buccaneers (VIJHL). He led the team in playoff scoring with 18 points in 15 games, helping guide the Buccaneers to the VIJHL Final.

Both players were key contributors to the Buccaneers’ success this season and join the Clippers following a strong run to the VIJHL Final.

Nanaimo Buccaneers Head Coach Tyler Gow commented on both players:

“Nate was a key part of our team, and earning VIJHL Defenceman of the Year shows the impact he had all season. He’s an elite skater, a dynamic player, and competes hard every night. He’s earned this opportunity, and I’m excited to see him take the next step.

Madden made an immediate impact as a rookie, and earning VIJHL Rookie of the Year speaks to the season he had. His speed and shot make him a constant threat. He’s worked hard for this opportunity, and I’m looking forward to seeing his continued growth.”

The Nanaimo Clippers would like to thank the Nanaimo Buccaneers organization for their role in developing both Nate and Madden, and congratulate them on a terrific season.

Clippers Head Coach & GM Colin Birkas added:

“Both Nate and Madden are excellent young players who have taken big steps in their development this season. Tyler Gow and the Buccaneers organization have done an excellent job with both players. They’ve earned this opportunity, and we believe they have the tools and mindset to continue progressing at this level. Bringing in players like this aligns with our commitment to developing and supporting young talent, especially local talent. We’re excited to have them join our group for the playoffs and beyond.”

The additions of Barclay and Cruickshank strengthen the Clippers’ roster heading into the playoffs, while their commitments for next season reflect the organization’s continued focus on adding high-end young talent.

The Nanaimo Clippers look forward to welcoming Nate and Madden and supporting their continued development both on and off the ice.
