Spruce Kings Earn Split with 8-1 Win!

0 1

The Prince George Spruce Kings scored three times in the opening period and eight times overall in an 8-1 victory over the Powell River Kings on Saturday night on the road.

Marcus Lougheed got the Spruce Kings on the board at 8:27 of the first period as Ryan Wachtel tapped the puck to loose ice for Lougheed off an outlet pass from Trent LeDrew.

Prince George made it 2-0 when River Arnason beat Devin Peck five-hole, before Mathis Laplante made it 3-0 from Arnason at 18:12.

The Powell River Kings would get back within two at 8:30 of the second, but PG responded with three of their own to lead 6-1 after 40 minutes.

First, it was Wachtel who poked a loose puck up and over Peck to make it 4-1, before Tai Ushio scored a pair – first off a giveaway by Powell River, then on a great deflection on a pass from the side of the goal on the power play.

In the third, Carter Hesselgrave scored his 22nd, also on the power play to make it 7-1.

After Carson Lynch took a match penalty with just over two minutes left, Arnason scored his second of the night to make it 8-1, as the power play finished 3 for 7 on the night.

The Spruce Kings hold an eight point lead in the Coastal East Standings, and head to Alberni Valley tomorrow for a 7 PM game against the Bulldogs.
