Trump Slammed After Posting AI Video Featuring US Hockey Player Insulting Another Country: 'That's Not Who I Am'

Donald Trump incited controversy with another AI-generated video after previously resharing a racist video that depicted the Obamas as apes.

Shortly before the 79-year-old president delivered his State of the Union address with Team USA’s men’s hockey team in attendance as special guests, the White House shared a video on TikTok that’s since gone viral.

In it, NHL star Braeden Tkachuk is pictured, seemingly making an offensive remark about another country. The gold medalist has since spoken out to deny ever saying the words and to distance himself from the video.

On Monday (February 23), the White House shared the video to celebrate the men’s hockey team’s victory over Canada in the 2026 Winter Olympics.

It opens with Tkachuk seemingly speaking at a press conference, slamming Canada.

“They booed our national anthem, so I had to come out and teach those maple syrup eating f—- a lesson,” he appears to say, seemingly in reference to hockey games where the American national anthem was booed by spectators.

However, Tkachuk never actually said any of that, and he’s dubbed the video “clearly fake.”

“Well, it’s clearly fake, because it’s not my voice, not my lips moving,” he said, via The Guardian.

Continuing, he added, “I’m not in control of any of those accounts. I know that those words would never come out of my mouth. So, I can’t do anything about it.”

“It’s not my voice. It’s not what I was saying,” the hockey player said. “I would never say that. That’s not who I am, so I guess I don’t like that video because that would never come out of my mouth and never had that thought.”

Although the 26-year-old left winger was born in Arizona and played for Team USA in the Games, he serves as the captain for the Ottawa Senators, a NHL team that is based in Canada.

The White House continued to taunt Canada in the clip’s caption, which read: “Silver does NOT shine just as bright.”

The video features an alert that it “contains AI-generated media,” but critics have taken to the comments section to slam the Trump administration for posting it in the first place.

“Do none of you realize this is fake? It is AI dubbed. Tkachuk, never said any of that. I can’t believe this was put out by the White House. Seriously, what is wrong with the social media team,” one person wrote.

Another chimed in, writing, “What in the actual F world are we living in?! Is there not ONE single sane person on the White House social media team? Not one? Not one person big enough to say ‘um yea no we shouldn’t post that’ no one? There’s no possible way this is reality.”

Just Jared reached out to the White House for comment on the video but did not hear back at the time of publication.

Find out why five of Tkachuk‘s Olympic teammates skipped their invitation to meet the president.
