Post Game Recap – Feb. 14th, 2026

The Nanaimo Clippers overwhelmed the Powell River Kings in an 8-4 win powered by a four-goal night from Samuel Boisvert. Nanaimo stormed out of the gate and never looked back, piling up 51 shots in a dominant offensive performance. Special teams made the difference in a heated contest that featured more than 60 minutes in penalties, with the Clippers capitalizing repeatedly on the power play and even adding a shorthanded marker. Despite late goals from the visitors, Nanaimo remained in control from start to finish.

The home team came out flying in the opening period, generating several quality chances in the first few minutes and setting the tone early. Five minutes into the game, Hayden Fechner streaked down the sidewall and wired home his 20th goal of the season to give Nanaimo a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, a late hit following the whistle sent the Powell River Kings to the penalty box. The Clippers’ power play capitalized, as Samuel Boisvert potted his first of the night to double the advantage. Nanaimo kept the pressure on, and minutes later Boisvert struck again, finishing off another opportunity to make it 3-0. Powell River responded with a goal of their own to cut the deficit to 3-1, briefly slowing Nanaimo’s momentum. However, a heated exchange that resulted in a brouhaha led to an extended 4-on-3 power play for the Clippers. Once again, the man advantage delivered. Landon Pappas blasted a one-timer past the goaltender off a crisp feed from Fechner to restore a three-goal cushion. After 20 minutes, Nanaimo held a commanding 4-1 lead and carried a dominant 20-8 edge in shots on goal into the first intermission.

The second period opened with the Clippers shorthanded after taking an early penalty, but the penalty kill stood tall and kept Powell River off the board. The game quickly turned choppy, with a parade of penalties disrupting the flow and tempers beginning to rise. Amid the chaos, Samuel Boisvert continued his dominant night. Five minutes into the frame, he completed his hat trick, finishing off another opportunity to extend Nanaimo’s lead. Shortly after, the Clippers found themselves down a man again, but this time it was the penalty killers who generated offence. Tanner Bruender broke free and buried a shorthanded goal to make it 6-1. Matthew Hutchison came up with a spectacular save while killing that penalty, flashing the leather on a prime Powell River chance to preserve the five-goal cushion. The rough play continued, eventually resulting in another power play for Nanaimo. Once again, Boisvert made them pay, scoring his fourth goal of the evening in a remarkable individual performance. Powell River managed to add a late tally, but the Clippers answered before the buzzer. Charles Beland restored the six-goal margin, sending Nanaimo into the second intermission firmly in control with an 8-3 lead.

The third period was marked by mounting frustration from the visiting Powell River Kings, as tensions continued to boil over and penalties piled up. Despite the chippy play, the Nanaimo Clippers remained composed, staying disciplined and managing the game effectively with a comfortable lead. Powell River added a pair of late goals to narrow the margin, eventually bringing the score to 8-4, but the outcome was never seriously in doubt. Nanaimo closed things out without further damage and skated away with a convincing 8-4 victory, including 51 total shots.

The three stars of the game were awarded to Samuel Boisvert, Charles Beland, and Patrick Fortune. Hayden Fechner earned FortisBC Energy Player of the Game.

The Clippers are back in action on Monday, Feb 16 when they face the Vernon Vipers. The next home game is Friday, Feb 20 when the Clippers matchup with the Chilliwack Chiefs. Tickets can be purchased at nanaimoclippers.com or the Frank crane box office on game day.
