Spruce Kings Complete Road Trip with 4-2 Win

0 1

The Prince George Spruce Kings took seven of eight points on their four game in five day road trip, finishing with a 4-2 victory over the Victoria Grizzlies on Saturday night on Vancouver Island.

Trent LeDrew got the Spruce Kings going just 12 seconds into the game as Mason Loewen’s hard forecheck off a Carter Hesselgrave dump in got the puck back out to LeDrew who fired it past Mikus Vecvanags.

The Grizzlies responded at 7:08 of the opening period as Michael Dowdall dumped a bouncer on goal that fooled Ryder Green to tie the game.

Tai Ushio scored his 23rd of the season on a 5 on 3 power play beating Vecvanags from Ozbej Rep and Marcus Lougheed at 11:42, as the Spruce Kings outshot the Grizzlies 12-9.

In the middle frame, Victoria would score the lone goal as Parker MacDougall picked one up on the power play, but the game was tied at two after 40 minutes.

In the 3rd, LeDrew would break the puck out to Spencer Masters, who dumped it onto the end wall and it kicked out into the slot off a Victoria player as Dominic Szczygiel jumped on it and buried the eventual game winner.

Mason Loewen would score an empty netter from Rep and Evan Bellamy at 18:14 to seal the deal as the Spruce Kings outshoot the Grizzlies 43-23 on the night.

Prince George now heads back north and will head to the BCHL Roadshow next weekend in Burns Lake to take on the Coquitlam Express.
