Ottawa Senators forward David Perron is expected to undergo sports hernia surgery and be sidelined five to seven weeks, head coach Travis Green announced.

Green noted that Perron has been dealing with the injury for some time.

Perron, 37, has recorded 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists) in 49 games this season.

A Stanley Cup champion with the St. Louis Blues, Perron has totaled 809 points (329 goals, 480 assists) in 1,223 career games with the Blues, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Vegas Golden Knights, Detroit Red Wings and Senators. He was selected by St. Louis with the 26th overall pick of the 2007 NHL Draft.

In a corresponding move on Thursday, the Senators recalled forward Stephen Halliday from Belleville of the American Hockey League.

Halliday, 23, has notched six assists in 18 games with Ottawa this season and 26 points (two goals, 24 assists) in 22 games with Belleville.
