Islanders F Bo Horvat, a Canada Olympian, avoids serious injury

0 14

New York Islanders alternate captain Bo Horvat remains on track to play for Canada in the Olympics despite leaving Thursday's loss to the Utah Mammoth with an apparent lower-body injury.

Horvat will miss upcoming games against the Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils and Nashville Predators and will be reevaluated in a week, Islanders coach Patrick Roy said Friday.

The 30-year-old center collided awkwardly with Mammoth defenseman Sean Durzi in the third period of New York's 7-2 blowout defeat.

Horvat's injury is not serious and his Olympic participation is not in jeopardy, TSN reported Friday. He was named Wednesday to the 25-man Canada team that will compete in the Winter Games at Milan, Italy, beginning Feb. 11.

Horvat's 21 goals and 33 points this season are team highs. A previous lower-body injury sidelined him for five games in mid-December.

The London, Ontario, product is in his fourth season with the Islanders. Horvat was acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Vancouver Canucks in January 2023.

The ninth overall pick in the 2013 draft, Horvat has scored 290 goals with 594 points in 849 career games.
