Reay Shuts Out Chiefs for Weekend Sweep
Colin Reay picked up his third BCHL shutout and first as the Prince George Spruce Kings with a 31-save performance in a 4-0 victory over the Chilliwack Chiefs on Saturday night.
Matic Perčič got the Spruce Kings fans on their feet just 2:51 into the game as Dominic Szczygiel got the puck out of the zone at the blue line and Perčič walked in on his off wing to snap it past the blocker of David Di Girolamo.
In the second period, Evan Bellamy beat Di Girolamo from the right side from Ozbej Rep and River Arnason at 11:00.
Just 3:07 later, Arnason got the puck up to Rep and then worked his way to the goal. Rep would slide into the right circle and fire it to the goal, deflected by Mason Loewen and as the puck sat in the crease, Arnason knocked it over the line for his third of the season.
The Chiefs fired 14 shots on goal in the third period including nine in the first 6:30 of the frame, but Reay was sharp, and the Spruce Kings defense blocked a number of shots as well.
Tai Ushio sealed the deal with 50 seconds left into an empty net.
The Spruce Kings are back at home next weekend for Friday and Saturday against the Victoria Grizzlies, with Saturday’s matchup being the annual Drop The Gloves and Sock it To Em game in support of St. Vincent de Paul.
