Johnson Stymies Spruce Kings Offense

0 3

Former Spruce King Dylan Johnson made 45 saves as the Langley Rivermen knocked off the Prince George Spruce Kings 4-2 on Sunday afternoon in front of 856 in attendance at Kopar Memorial Arena.

The Rivermen lead after one period despite being outshot 20-11, as Andreas Mikrogiannakis beat Colin Reay with his shot after Andrew Petruk separated a defender from the puck, then tapped it out front for the assist.

Kazumo Sasaki picked up his 5th point of the weekend to take the BCHL lead with 22 on the season as he was sent in on a breakaway at 4:06 of the middle frame.  After a Matic Perčič penalty was killed off, he would change and allow Sasaki to come on undetected as Ryan Wachtel found him on a stretch pass.

Prince George would take the lead at 10:39 as Evan Bellamy hit a bullet of a one-timer off an Ozbej Rep pass to the top corner to make it 2-1.

Zachary Benayon tied the game at two just 1:40 into the 3rd period, before Tanner Winegard made it 3-2 at 7:24.

The Spruce Kings tried to find the equalizer late, but Johnson stood tall as Aaron Reierson put one into the empty net at 18:39 to seal the victory.

Prince George welcomes the Alberni Valley Bulldogs next Friday and Saturday night at Kopar Memorial Arena.
