Glens Falls Rec Center opening for hockey in November
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Glens Falls Recreation Center will officially be open for hockey games and practices on Saturday, November 1. The recreation center is located on Fire Road.
The center will host hockey games and practices for the Adirondack Youth Hockey Association and the Glens Falls and Queensbury High School hockey teams. According to the city, there was a glycol leak last spring from the chiller system that has since been temporarily repaired to allow for the center to open.
Now, city officials are looking to see about permanent repairs on the 40-year-old chiller system that was leaking glycol, or to replace it completely. The city will be looking to make the repair or replacement following the end of hockey season.
“I’ve never been so happy to see a sheet of ice in Glens Falls,” said Mayor Bill Collins. “It’s a true credit to the teamwork and dedication among our city department heads, employees, contractors and community volunteers. All of us were very focused on getting the Rec Center ready for hockey season by early November. That goal has been achieved.”
